CentOS 6.3 :: Setup VNC Server

:: What is vnc
VNC is a graphical desktop sharing system that uses the remote framebuffer protocol to remotely control another computer.

 
:: How to install vnc server in CentOS 6.3

yum groupinstall Desktop
yum install tigervnc-server xorg-x11-fonts-Type1

 
:: How to setup vnc server in CentOS 6.3
+ Configure VNC Server

vi /etc/sysconfig/vncservers
VNCSERVERS="1:myusername"
VNCSERVERARGS[1]="-geometry 1024x600"

if you used multi-user, setup like these:

VNCSERVERS="1:myusername 2:otheruser"
VNCSERVERARGS[1]="-geometry 1024x600"
VNCSERVERARGS[2]="-geometry 1024x600"

+ Configure vnc user

# su - myusername
$ vncpassword
$ vi .vnc/xstartup

## add some configuration like these

#!/bin/sh
# Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:
# unset SESSION_MANAGER
# exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
exec gnome-session &
$ chmod 755 .vnc/xstartup

+ Restarting vnc and start vncserver when booting

/etc/init.d/vncserver restart
chkconfig vncserver on

 
:: Connect to vnc server
you can using Remmina to connect vnc.

hostname: localhost:5901
user: myusername
pass: mypassword
